A Plastic-Free Parish? Living without single use plastics

We've been discussing the issue of plastics in the environment a lot. It's been hard to miss the debate there has been since David Attenborough in Blue Planet II drew attention to the plague of plastics flooding our oceans and threatening wildlife. Since then we've learnt about how its choking our rivers - and discovered that the Chinese don't want to take our plastic waste anymore, leaving us bereft of recycling facilities.

Two of our members Dave and Penny Murcott have been trying to live without buying single use plastics for the past few months - and an article about their experiences and challenges will be appearing in the March edition of Connect magazine which goes out to all parish residents.

The suggestion has been made that the parish should set out its stall to move towards eliminating at least single use plastics from the village. The Parish Council is backing this idea and we will jointly be offering information and support to people and organisations who want to join this initiative.
