Fruit Tree Grafting Workshop

We are organising a fruit tree (apple and pear) grafting workshop on Sunday 25th March 2pm – 4pm. Its being held in Bit End Pavilion, Vicarage Lane, Whittington. Cost will be £10 per person.

You can learn how to graft and also take away two young fruit trees to plant. We'll supply two rootstocks per person – and there'll be several different varieties of apple scion available and at least one pear (if requested) which can be grafted onto the rootstock and which determines the variety of apple you will get. The rootstocks are Mm 106, a semi-vigorous rootstock which should produce trees with an eventual height and spread of around 12'.

Scions available will include Whittington Hero (discovered on the ranges), Roland Smith (another lovely Staffordshire variety from Weston Park), Ashmead's Kernel, Cox's Orange Pippin, Annie Elizabeth (cooker), Bramley's Seedling (cooker), Pitmaston Duchess (pear – on request). If you have a particular request let us know and we'll see if we can help as we have several other varieties available.

You can even bring your own scions if you have a treasured tree you'd like to have propagated - or we can try and do this for you. Let us know.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance - by close of play this Sunday (18th March)

For bookings or enquiries phone Mike on 07932 757826 - or email mike@wfeg.org.uk
